Abies concolor
Description
Concolors are one of the better firs for midwestern conditions. They require less moisture than other firs, have few insect or disease problems, and are more tolerant of air pollution and urban conditions. They’re slow growing with soft, silver-blue needles. Avoid planting in clay soils and exposed northwestern sites, where these firs are susceptible to windburn. Heavy pruning is not recommended.Photo courtesy of Badger NurseryFor reference only:
