Description

Elms are known for their fast growth rate and high, arching canopies. American Elm cultivars are tolerant to Dutch Elm Disease, so they only show symptoms of the disease when stressed or severely infected. They naturally grow more than one leader and should be pruned to develop a single leader if desired. A single leader can help prevent splitting with high winds and ice loads. Valley Forge is considered the most Dutch Elm Disease tolerant of the American cultivars.
