Description

Crabapples are among the most popular spring flowering trees. They’re adaptable to a range of soil types. Buds for the next season will set in mid-summer, so prune in early June if needed. Suckers should be removed and pruning the center of the plant to encourage air movement can help prevent disease problems. Royalty has crimson flowers that emerge from dark purple buds. Sparse, 3/8 inch fruit. Glossy leaves emerge purple, fade to purple-green in the summer, and turn brilliant purple in the fall. Foliage is considered the best among purple-leaved varieties.
