Description
One of the best crabapples for flowers, fruit, and foliage. Crabapples are among the most popular spring flowering trees. They’re adaptable to a range of soil types. Buds for the next season will set in mid-summer, so prune in early June if needed. Suckers should be removed and pruning the center of the plant to encourage air movement can help prevent disease problems. Prairiefire is one of the best crabapples for flowers, fruit, and foliage. Dark purplish red flowers emerge from red buds. Persistant, 1/2 inch, dark purplish red cone-shaped fruit. Foliage emerges maroon, turning green then apricot orange to red in the fall.
