Tsuga canadensis
Description
Hemlocks are stately yet graceful pyramidal trees. New growth emerges yellowish, then matures to dark green. They perform best soil amended with compost, and groundcovers to keep soils cool and shaded. They are tolerant of full shade, but partial shade is best. They can handle heavy pruning, and make beautiful hedges, especially when individual shoots are removed rather than shearing. It’s best to plant them out of the way of winter winds.Additional information
